Project Description
This project required that a document be prepared for translation into a language other than Engish. Completing this project required two steps: the first was to explain the steps needed to translate a document and the rationale for those particular steps; the second was to show the edits in the document that was being prepared for translation.
Because the document I chose for translation was already prepared with visuals, I was not pressured to select or determine the best way to present the visuals. I did need to consider my audience; because this was intended for translation, I had to conduct research into my target audience: their attitudes toward technology and their attitude toward repairing equipment instead of disposing of it. I also had to take into account unfamiliar terms. If I weren't familiar with a term, I would need to find an equivalent that would be recognizable.
This project challenged my threshold concept from the perspective of audience analysis. Because my audience was foreign, I needed to be culturally aware of and sensitive to the beliefs and attitudes different from mine. This represented an irreversible change in my growth in the understanding of my threshold concept.
